RVTV Public Access Television

Procedures for Using the Studio

Public Access has use of the Studio on Friday evening and Saturday.  It is important for Producers to follow the procedures in order to respect the privilege of using the studio and of other Producers who wish to create programming using the studio. Having the use of the studio is a valuable space and privilege that should not be abused. The following applies to everyone using the studio:

  1. ONLY reserve studio time if:
    1. You are unable to shoot your program in the field
    2. You intend to shoot at least one program for cablecast

(1).  The studio is not a rehearsal hall –

reserve the classroom if you want

to simply rehearse or hold auditions

(2)       Three hour timeslots are usually reserved, allowing the Producer to record at least a minimum of one hour of

programming. If you intend to

record only one half hour

program, your time in the studio will

be cut to an hour and a

half, allowing another Producer the

opportunity to come in and

use the other hour and a half to

create at least one half hour

program.

  1. Friday Evenings:  This time is reserved for LIVE Programs ONLY to be cablecast from 6 PM to 7 PM. Your crew call is 4:30, Live at 6 and ready to leave (studio and control room returned to neutral) by 7:30

  1. Saturdays:

Morning:  The studio can be reserved for Saturday morning if it is not being used by the Producer Workshop Class

The Crew Call is 9 AM and you must have

the studio and control room back to

                    neutral by noon.

Afternoon:  Crew Call is noon and the studio and control room must be returned to neutral by 3 PM

REMEMBER: The three hour reservation gives you time for a minimum of one – one hour show or two half hour shows. If you are only planning on recording one half hour show, please only reserve an hour and a half so that another producer can use the other hour and a half to record a show.

  1. Pre Production:  Plan ahead. If you have questions regarding your upcoming studio program, come in a week or two in advance and meet with a Community Access staffer. We are happy to assist you with any concerns or questions you might have.
  2. Graphics:  Arrange to come into the control room and create your graphics ahead of the day you will record your show. There are too many things that need to be done the day of your shoot so   have your graphics done ahead of time (except for the names of the crew, which can be done that day. This shows respect for your crew and your guests by not making them spend time sitting around waiting for you.

  1. Crew:  It is up to the Producer to secure a crew to work their show, not the Public Access staff. If you come in to record a program and do not have a crew (including a director who knows the control room and does not require P.A. staff to tell them what to do), your show may be cancelled. It is at the option of the Public Access staff, based on their other work requirements, as to whether they will be able to assist with your show.
  2. Program Content:  We do not censor or edit your programs at RVTV. However, if your program will contain “adult” language or material, please reserve studio time on Saturday (non-live production). If you have a live show and your content becomes adult, we will continue to record but the plug will be pulled on your live cablecast and you could loose your studio privileges for the future.

  1. Forms:  Upon the completion of the recording of your studio show, please see that a crew sheet has been completed and a submission form is filled out. There is a $10 studio/submission fee. RVTV provides the DVD for recording your program and will back it up on a recycled SVHS tape in case there is a problem with the DVD.

What does "Studio/Control Room returned to Neutral" Mean:

    1. All props and set pieces returned to the exact location you got them from (this enables the studio space to remain as neat aspossible, given the room we have for storage.)
    2. All XLR cords have been rewound and hung on the hooks at the back of the studio.
    3. All microphones have been placed back in the bag that corresponds with the number on the mic and given to a Public Access staff member.
    4. Any lights that were moved or the plugs changed are returned to the way they were when you came into the studio. If gels were used, the gel frames and gels have been taken down, the frames stored on the monitor cart and the gels given to a Public Access staff member.
    5. The light board: all lights have been shut off, the Master Control slider bar has been brought down and the board has been shuT off and covered.
    6. The sound board: All the sliders have been pulled down to the off position. If the buttons on the back of the board were pushed for phantom power, make sure they are set back for the use of regular microphones.
    7. The camera cables have been properly wound and placed on the hooks at the back of the studio and the cameras are secure on the tripods so they don’t tip. The cameras have been put in bars. On Saturday afternoon, after putting the cameras in bars, they are then shut off.
    8. The graphics computer and screen have been shut off.
    9. All Monitors are shut off.
    10. The Grass Valley Mixer has been put black (Fade to Black button depressed).
    11. The Director’s microphone box – both buttons shut off.
    12. The Switcher for DVD, VHS, etc. shut off.
    13. All recording devises shut off (Mini DV Player, SVHS Player & Recorder, DVD Player and Recorder)
    14. If music was used, shut the CD or Tape player off and if studio music was used, return the CD to its proper place on the CD shelf.
